Every day, 38,356,164 pounds of trash are dumped into our oceans. That’s a lot of trash. So how do we clean up this mess? The answer: one pound at a time. Enter United By Blue

For every product sold, United By Blue removes one pound of trash from our world's oceans and waterways. With that simple promise, United By Blue not only started a company, they founded a movement towards more responsible living.

Woman Removing Trash at United By Blue Cleanup

At dozens of sites across the country, United By Blue employees get out into the field to fulfill this pledge, removing trash from rivers, lakes, bays, roadsides, and countless other wide places. To date, this initiative has removed over 3 million pounds of trash.

The Roanline team is proud to partner with them in our hometown of Asheville, NC, where we team up with United By Blue's staff and local volunteers to clean our beloved French Broad River.

But United By Blue's promise doesn't end with remediation; instead the company is actively transforming their manufacturing processes to keep waste from ever entering our natural places. It all begins with a thoughtful approach to product design and ends with quality products that are built to last a lifetime.

Woman and Man Wearing United By Blue Clothing

United By Blue's bestselling line of Men’s and Women’s clothing, enamel mugs, reusable straw kits, and bags are helping to rewrite the way we choose what to wear.

Not only does United By Blue remove trash from the environment, it's taking steps to make sure that waste is being recycled into usable products with the new (R)evolution backpacks and bags. Made from 100% recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles, these bags are setting the standard for closed loop manufacturing.

Our bag pick: the ultra-versatile 25L Transit Backpack. Big enough for weekend adventures, and with a laptop sleeve for weekday commuting.

United By Blue is pioneering the use of materials such as environmentally-friendly organic cotton, and it even became one of the first clothing lines to introduce yak fibers into their garments. We've been particularly impressed with United By Blue's introduction of hemp fabrics into its clothing. Hemp is a hardy crop that is grown using a fraction of the water requires (making it good for the environment) and is woven into a soft, breathable fabric that is completely biodegradable (making it good for you!)

Other unique innovations include the use of buttons made from corozo nuts, the seeds of a tropical palm tree. Just one of these trees can produce 50 pounds of nuts every year, and can do so for over 100 years! These buttons replace the use of plastic buttons that are found in most garments, providing a chemical-free biodegradable solution for keeping that shirt closed.

United By Blue Cleanup Leader Group

In all of these efforts, United By Blue is proving that practical, stylish outdoors clothing and gear can protect the places where we find our adventure. Whether it’s on the trail, in the water, or just spending time in your local park, you can feel comfortable in clothes that are leading a movement.

We're proud to have partnered with United By Blue since Roanline’s very beginning. They're wonderful people that embody all aspects of conscious capitalism, all while actively improving the world in which we live. Head on over to our United By Blue Shop to browse some of our favorites.
